Here are your distance learning goals for today.
Yesterday, you filled out the brainstorming sheets for your favorite book from third grade. Today, you'll be writing out your book review presentation! We will present these next Tuesday in a Zoom Meeting! Use the information you brainstormed yesterday to fill out the rest of the sections of your packet: Introduction, Summary, Favorite Part, Conclusion and Recommendation.
If you have time when you are done with your brainstorming sheet, you can use the rest of the reading time to continue to do free reading. Please fill out the 🦉Reading Log Form after you finish so that we can be kept up-to-date with what awesome books you are reading!
Math
For math today, please watch this video of Module 7 Lesson 4 where you will see Mr. Duane talking you through the main idea of the lesson. Today you'll be going back to what you learned in 2nd grade about geometry (parallel lines, vertices, angles, etc.) and applying it to quadrilaterals.
🦉After watching the video, please work on the problem set. There is a template page at the end of the lesson pages that you will need for the problems. If you would like extra practice, you can do the other problems, or challenge yourself to find more ways to solve some of the problems after you've finished them once.
I will post the answers to the problem set tomorrow. You do not need to do the homework unless you'd like some extra practice. If you finish with extra time, you can play Reflex or Zearn.
Here are the answers for Lesson 3 problem set. Did you come up with the SAME strategy as Gina for each problem or a different one?
Science:
Please watch this science video to learn more about the ways that animals adapt both on land and in water.
Grammar:
We are going to skip ahead in the grammar book to do some review of a few concepts you should be familiar with, especially as students going into 4th grade!
Today we'll be doing contractions with pronouns. These work the same as the contractions we did a few weeks ago where a letter (or letters) are removed and an apostrophe ( ' ) is inserted. In fact, I used a contraction at the start of this paragraph... "We'll". I could have said "We will", but I shortened it to "we'll".
Try reading this sentence full of contractions. Do you know what they all mean?
I'm sure they're going to see that he's just drawing a picture!
I am sure they are going to see that he is just drawing a picture!
🦉Please find page 180 in your grammar book and complete sections A, B and C for Lesson 40.

BONUSES:
Bonus #1 - The Ickabog
You may not know this, but Harry Potter is my favorite book series. Yesterday, the author, J. K. Rowling, released the start of a new book called The Ickabog. She wrote it years and years ago, and put it in the attic about 10 years ago. So, it's been sitting there getting dusty for your entire life. Then, a few weeks ago, she decided to open up the box, turn it into a published piece for everyone to read while we're stuck at home in quarantine.
It is short... nothing like Harry Potter. But, it has characters like the Ickabog, Lord Spittleworth, and Lord Flapoon. That sounds like fun to me! :)
And, there is more. For those of you who like drawing, she's having a competition for kids all over the world to send in illustrations! Right now the book is published online, just text, but if you're feeling creative, submit some pictures of what you imagine in your head as you read, and maybe your drawings will be published!
The new chapters will be posted until July, so reading it will also give you something new to do once school is over.

Bonus #2 - Historic Rocket Launch
The last time the United States sent humans into space was back in 2011. The only way for Americans to get to the International Space Station (ISS) was if they went on a Russian space flight. But that will change today!
Today, NASA is launching SpaceX's Crew Dragon which will be riding on a Falcon 9 rocket to go to the ISS with 2 men on board. The launch is scheduled for 4:33 PM, but they will have coverage of everyone getting ready starting around 12:15 PM.
My best guess is that you can watch it live HERE on NASA Live.
