Friday, May 1

Happy Friday Everyone!
Today is our Zoom hangout session. We have prepared a fun game that we are going to try today so you will need a pencil and a piece of paper.  We look forward to seeing you all at 12:30.

Reading
We are at the end of our mystery book! Today you will continue to notice if the book is asking you to read at a normal pace and make a mind movie OR if it is asking you to slow down and collect information.

Now, listen to Mrs. Bryant reading the last two chapters of this week's mystery book!

Now that you've finished listening to the story, what new goals do you have for yourself as a reader? Do you want to pay attention to more clues the next time you read? Do you want to notice how the text is teaching you to read - at a normal pace or more slowly? It is important to set goals as a reader and practice your skills so that you can get better. It's the same as learning sports!

Afterward, you can use the rest of the reading time to continue to do free reading (or mystery books). Please fill out the Reading Log Form after you finish so that we can be kept up-to-date with what awesome books you are reading!

Writing
Please plan to spend about 20-30 minutes working on writing and choose to either do a free write or continue with poetry - or maybe you'd like to do both! We will have opportunities to write our own limericks next week but you are welcome to write your own today!

Math
For math today, please watch this video of Lesson 28 where you will see Mr. Duane talking you through the main idea of the lesson. Today you are learning about comparing fractions with the same numerator. Often, when you are learning something new in math, pictures can be helpful. So this lesson is all about drawing the fractions in pictures to help you! After watching the video, please complete the problem set. I will post the answers to the problem set tomorrow. You do not need to do the homework unless you'd like some extra practice. If you finish with extra time, you can play Reflex or Zearn.

Here are the answers for Lesson 27 problem set:

Social Studies
Today, please log in to Studies Weekly and read the week 22 social studies magazine about "Using Natural Resources." Remember that you can answer the comprehension questions at the end of each article so that you can earn points for your Rev the Rat!

And lastly, here is a bonus video of Mrs. Bryant reading you the story What Would You Do With a Kangaroo. Enjoy!
