Hello Awesome Third Graders!
Mrs. Bryant and Charlie sent a photo to share with you today! She said they're all doing well and she misses everyone!

Click here to submit ideas for field day team names. Submit as many as you'd like. I'm using it to collect 4th-grade ideas too (don't worry they'll stay separate!), so make sure you click 3rd grade!

Here are your distance learning goals for today.

Reading
Today, we will continue with the short mysteries that we sent in the mail. Today you'll want to find the one titled The Missing Cake.

First, do the "Before Reading" section. Next, read the story, paying attention to all of the things you learned about reading mysteries over the last few weeks. When you are done reading, answer the questions. Last, return to the first page and finish the "After Reading" section. We will post the answers to the question page tomorrow.

Afterward, you can use the rest of the reading time to continue to do free reading (or mystery books). Please fill out the Reading Log Form after you finish so that we can be kept up-to-date with what awesome books you are reading!

Math
Today we are starting a new module about data!

For math today, please watch this video of Lesson 1 where you will see Mr. Duane talking you through the main idea of the lesson. Today you are learning about generating and organizing data. You'll be working with tallies and picture graphs. After watching the video, please complete the problem set.

Here are the results I got from surveying both the 3rd and 4th-grade classes about their favorite colors. Use this data to create your tally chart:

Ms. Keil - Blue
Allen - Green
Ava C. - Blue
Ava F. - Green
Marc - Blue
Parker - Green
Rileigh - Red
Rose - Blue
Samantha - Blue
Steven - Blue

I will post the answers to the problem set tomorrow. You do not need to do the homework unless you'd like some extra practice. If you finish with extra time, you can play Reflex or Zearn.

Science
Today we would like you to watch this video to see a few different strategies that animals use to avoid predators.  You will hear information about camouflage, mimicry, and warning coloration.  After the video, you will create your own camouflage butterflies.

Step 1: Find something colorful from your house.  It may be a book, a wall, a painting, etc.
Step 2: Color your blank butterfly to blend in with the object that you chose.
Step 3: Hold your butterfly in front of the background to see if it blends in.

Second Step
Please click the link to watch the Second Step Video.  This video talks about Solving Peer-Exclusion Problems.  We will talk about how you can be assertive to find safe and respectful solutions when you are feeling left out of a group or activity.
