Monday, March 30th

Happy Monday friends!
I hope you were all able to find some time to get outside and move your bodies. Remember that getting some movement in (even if it is just going up and down the stairs inside your house several times) is very important for your bodies and brains. Also, remember to check out the Special Areas page on the website so that you can continue spending some time practicing your skills from those classes!
Reading:
For reading today, please log into Headsprout and complete the placement tool. Headsprout is similar to RAZ kids, which I believe you used last year, so it should work the same way where you read stories, do some comprehension checks, and you can earn points to buy things with! Your parents received an email with your login information, if you need it again, please let me know. Plan to spend about 30 minutes doing the placement tool and starting some episodes.

Afterward, you can use the rest of the reading time to continue to do free reading. Please fill out the Reading Log Form after you finish so that I can be kept up-to-date with what awesome books you are reading!

Writing:
Please start by writing a Weekend Web entry with 5-8 strong sentences about your weekend. Remember to use details including what you did, how you felt, who was with you, and more.

Afterward, for our writing lesson, I'd like you to work on the packet called "How to Haiku." Read through it and then try writing some of your own haikus! They are a fun and quick form of poetry. The only thing you have to pay close attention to is how many syllables are in each line. Remember that syllables are how we break up a word when we say it. For example, Monday would be Mon-day. Sometimes when writing haikus we tend to overthink how we say something and end up putting in a lot of extra syllables!

Math:
For math today, please watch this video of Lesson 12 where you will see Mr. Duane talking you through the main idea of the lesson. After watching the video, please complete the HOMEWORK pages. The problem set pages required you to do some in-class things with manipulatives that you don't have at home, so just working on the homework pages today!

I will post the answers to the homework tomorrow. If you finish with extra time, you can play Reflex or Zearn.

Here are the answers for Lesson 11 Problem Set:

Science:
Please read the first three articles: Gecko Feet & Space Robots, Birds & the Japanese Bullet Train, and Spider Webs & Glass in the packet that got mailed home to you. After reading, please write 3-5 strong sentences about what you learned from the reading. Please check for capitals and punctuation, words you know spelled correctly, neat handwriting, and to make sure any facts are written in your own words!

Cursive:
For cursive, please complete the letter 'n' on pages 62-63. Notice that it looks more like an 'm' with the first connection that is made. Watch out for words that have both an 'm' AND 'n' in them because they can start to look funny with all of the bumps!

Here is a read-aloud titled, I am Peace, written by Susan Verde who came to visit Brown School last year!
