I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible for our Zoom class hangout at 12:30 PM today. If you need the login information, look for the blog post below and make sure you click the link for the Friday hangout. Here are your distance learning goals for today.
For reading today, since we finished Dyamonde Daniel yesterday, we are officially wrapping up our Character Studies reading unit. Like we did with the non-fiction one where you designed monuments, this time I would like you to create a poster or advertisement (just using regular white paper - or any paper you have/want to use) explaining about a book you've read and why others should read it. Think about what made the book enjoyable for you to read, and try to "hook" others with some catchy phrases or previews. If you send me a picture of your finished poster I will post them on Monday!
Afterward, you can use the rest of the reading time to continue to do free reading. Please fill out the Reading Log Form after you finish so that I can be kept up-to-date with what awesome books you are reading!
Writing:
I encourage you to do some freewriting today. If you'd like to continue with poetry please feel free to do so. Ms. Anderson told me yesterday about a project she's working on that if you write some poetry outside on the sidewalk or driveway with chalk you can take a picture of it and email it to her (canderson@brownschool.org)!
Math:
For math today, please watch this video of Lesson 11 where you will see Mr. Duane talking you through the main idea of the lesson. After watching the video, please complete the problem set. (Notice that there are three pages of the problem set for this lesson!) I will post the answers to the problem set on Monday. You do not need to do the homework unless you'd like some extra practice. If you finish with extra time, you can play Reflex or Zearn.
Here are the answers for Lesson 10 Problem Set:
Science:
As I continue to find some cool new resources for our science unit, I would like you to try out Generation Genius and watch the video lesson called "The Structure of Living Things." After you finish, click on the "paper quiz" button to see if you can answer all of the comprehension questions. You can choose to print it out or simply write your answers down on a blank piece of paper.
For social studies, please continue working on your final pages for our China Alphabet Book. As you finish if you'd like to send me a photo to share your work that would be wonderful! Remember if you forget what possible topic ideas are, here is the list. Please pay attention to writing the information in your own words and also remembering to put down where you got your information from. Try your best to write about 5-8 sentences (or whatever fits on your page) about your topic and be thinking about including just the most important information so that you can help teach other people about what you researched. If you aren't finding much information on the databases, ask an adult to help you with a Google search for some more information.
If you have finished your pages or are looking for some more social studies activities to do, you may log in to Studies Weekly and read our social studies magazine week 20 titled "Different Cultures in Different Regions."
Also, as promised here is our latest photo of Baby Boy Bryant! I think that it looks like his nose looks like it is squished against a window saying "let me out!"
