Monday, April 27

Hello third-grade friends! It was great to see everyone on the Zoom chats last week. We are so happy to be working with you for the next few weeks, and we can't wait to see all of your work! Here are your distance learning goals for today. Please make sure to send your work to 3rdgrade@brownschool.org.

Reading

For reading today, we are going to continue the mystery read aloud called The Whodunnit Detective Agency: The Diamond Mystery. Please watch the first video to learn about a very special type of clue that authors use when writing mystery stories!

Next, listen to Mrs. Bryant reading chapters 2 and 3 in the video below. As you are listening look for the clues the author left and decide if they are REAL clues or RED HERRINGS.

Afterward, you can use the rest of the reading time to continue to do free reading (or mystery books). Please fill out the Reading Log Form after you finish so that we can be kept up-to-date with what awesome books you are reading!

Writing
Please start by writing a Weekend Web entry with 5-8 strong sentences about your weekend. Remember to use details including what you did, how you felt, who was with you, and more. Complete the Rhyme Scheme: Learning About Limericks 1 worksheet.  Please do not go past the first introductory page.  We will do a full lesson about limericks on Wednesday.

Math
For math today, please watch this video of Lesson 24 where you will see Mr. Duane talking you through the main idea of the lesson. Today you are going to be learning about whole numbers and fractions You'll be using number bonds and number lines to help you. After watching the video, please complete the problem set. The answers to the problem set will be posted on Tuesday. You do not need to do the homework unless you'd like some extra practice. If you finish with extra time, you can play Reflex or Zearn.

Here are the answers for Lesson 23 problem set:

Science/Social Studies/Second Step
Please watch this short video explaining instinct vs. learned behaviors. Next, complete the worksheet which is an Instinct or Learned Behavior sort.

Cursive
Here is a short video of the two letters you'll be doing for cursive today, q and z. If you feel comfortable trying the letters without the video, you can get started with pages 68 and 69 in your book. If you'd like to see how they're made, then watch the video first!
